The Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L

The camp macabre world of Edward Gorey once again darkens the doorstep of the Newport Theater in a surreal original theatrical sequel. “The Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L” is an absurdist dark comedy told through puppetry, clowning, dance, live music and an unhealthy dose of ridiculous deaths.

“The Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L” plays four shows over two weekends premiering September 17. All shows are at 7:00pm. Newport Theater is located at 956 W. Newport Ave, second floor. Tickets range $25-$40 and can be found at www.NewportTheater.com.

The Newport Theater is thrilled to announce an original production inspired by the wild and imaginative world of Edward Gorey. Following last year’s sold out run of Chapters E-H, “The Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L” blends the arts of puppetry, clowning, dance, live music, and dark comedy to tell a story of a world where catastrophic events happen with utter regularity and its inhabitants, particularly children, are an endangered species.

“The Uncanny Attic: Chapters I-L” pays homage to Gorey’s legendary satire and non-sequitur storytelling with an original script full of Easter eggs of his works and nods to his real-life biography. The story centers around the mysterious attic of an abandoned Colonial house on the cape. Through a series of not-so-random circumstances, the audience is introduced to a doomed cast of characters who each come to a sticky end.

The cast includes veteran performers in several disciplines including co-creators Jennifer Friedrich (Incurable Theater, Redmoon Theater) and Bazuka Joe (Poonie’s Cabaret, Newport Theater Camp), along with Jill Summers, Susie Kirkwood, Josh Levine and Mackenzie Shapiro, Luc Ami, Mz Love, Karma Carnelian, Derry Eire, Marla Wyrd, Lady Ve’Lush, Vixxie Velvet, and Vixen Violencia.

About the Trust:

Edward Gorey created the Trust in his will, designating it as the sole owner of his intellectual property and charging it to benefit organizations "whose primary purpose is the welfare of animals." The Trust pursues its mission by licensing Mr. Gorey's intellectual property, lending his work to museums and other exhibitors, and issuing grants for animal rescue, care, and conservation.
